It’s the kind of foolishness we expect from Sokka. Funny, cute, and charming. And in addition to reinforcing his inherently playful nature, this two-line exchange from “Sokka’s Master” encapsulates the anxieties that drive Sokka’s emotional arc—throughout this episode, and throughout the entire series.

“Is that okay?” he asks when he shows his work. Though certainly light-hearted, the moment is strangely earnest compared to his usual sarcastic humor. It’s the same question he’s always been asking.
